Day by Day

Itinerary

Day 1: A warm welcome to Tanzania | 1 Night

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, meet your guide for the drive to Arusha Coffee Lodge. Set on a picturesque coffee plantation, this charming lodge has beautiful views of Mount Meru and is the ideal place to acclimatise to Africa. After settling into your cottage, take a stroll through the plantations, visit the markets of nearby Arusha, or simply relax in the poolside gardens with a chilled drink. On cool winter evenings, get cosy next to a fireplace and sip one of the best coffees you will ever taste.

Days 2-3: The magic of Lake Manyara | 2 Nights

After a leisurely breakfast, proceed to the airport, where a charter flight to Lake Manyara is waiting for you. Your guide picks you up at the airport and drives you into Lake Manyara National Park to get your appetite for the adventures ahead. You soon reach the mahogany tree grove that houses Lake Manyara Tree Lodge.

The exclusive and intimate experience of staying at the park’s sole lodge is perfectly complemented by the lodge’s laid-back atmosphere. Ten delightful tree-house suites make up Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, which also has a stylish central lounge, bar, and dining area. As you take in the scenery, open the sliding doors of your thatched chalet and let the African sun in.

Spend two nights there and take part in thrilling night drives in addition to morning and afternoon game drives. The stunning Lake Manyara, which is a part of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, is surrounded by a rich variety of natural habitats, including a soda lake that serves as a haven for flocks of flamingos and other waterbirds. For those who love watching birds, this is paradise! A significant elephant population, as well as giraffe, buffalo, and numerous antelope species, are supported by the forested valleys and open savannah plains. There are fewer predators, but the lions of Lake Manyara top the list because they love to climb trees.

Days 4-5: Magnificent Ngorongoro | 2 Nights

This long-extinct volcano is home to the largest intact caldera in the entire world, making it one of the planet’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations. Its steep-sided walls are home to a variety of habitats, including permanent wetlands that provide shelter to an astounding number of animals. Long-tusked elephants, strong black rhinos, and renowned black-maned lions are just a few of the big game species that are flourishing in Ngorongoro.

You might experience a sense of arriving on the verge of another world when you arrive at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. The lodge, which is perched on the crater rim and occasionally shrouded in a fine mist, overlooks what must be one of Africa’s most breathtaking views. Settle into your opulently furnished suite as you take in the expansive view from your private balcony. Meet your guide while enjoying a decadent high tea and talk about your personal interests and the Ngorongoro game viewing experience.

The magic of Ngorongoro is obvious long before you reach the crater floor thanks to a density of game uncommonly seen anywhere in Africa and breathtaking scenery. There is a lot more to see, and this is one of the few places in Africa where the Big 5 can be seen in a single game drive. There are resident herds of zebra, wildebeest, and gazelle, as well as smaller predators like caracal and serval cats, as well as lions and their perennial foes, spotted hyena. Elephants live in the forests and marshes, but thousands of flamingos and hippos live in the crater’s wetlands.

You return to the lodge’s opulent comforts after a full day of exploration and a delectable picnic lunch on the crater plains, giving you time to process the wonders you’ve seen and converse with other travelers over cocktails by the fire. The day concludes with a deliciously decadent dinner served in the opulent dining room.

Days 6-8: Spectacular Serengeti | 3 Nights

Board your charter flight to the Serengeti and bid the crater farewell. The fabled reserve opens up beneath you as you fly over it, its vast open plains extending to the horizon in the distance. At certain times of the year, over a million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate along a vast circular route, following the rains to new pastures and the tender grass shoots that nourish their newborn calves and foals. This is where the renowned Great Migration takes place. Driven by instincts that are as old as the Serengeti itself, the herds cross the perilous rivers while dodging lurking crocodiles and facing swarms of magnificent predators on the open plains.

Serengeti Under Canvas, a traveling tented camp that follows the migration, is your home in this legendary location. The Serengeti Under Canvas makes the most of its prime location on the Serengeti plains to deliver some of the best migration sightings in the area as well as excellent year-round Big 5 game viewing. It is traditionally elegant and as comfortable as any permanent lodge.

There are many opportunities during the three days at Serengeti Under Canvas to understand why Tanzania is one of Africa’s top safari locations. The main focus of your daily activities will be morning and afternoon game drives led by knowledgeable guides, while night drives, narrated nature walks, and hot-air ballooning (an optional extra) will broaden your understanding of the Serengeti.

Day 9: Homeward bound

You start your journey home after a final delicious brunch in camp and an early morning game drive. As you soar over this ancient landscape, you consider the wonders you have seen, including the bravery of wildebeest crossing a crocodile-infested river, the tranquility of a hot-air balloon ride, the thrill of seeing a lion pride in action, and the joy of watching zebra foals play. Your heart still holds in all the sights and sounds of the Serengeti, taking you back to the vast sky and endless savannah.
